Published 02/16/2017 09:57 AM   |    Updated 02/28/2017 01:58 PM
What is the Pre-Need Burial Eligibility Determination Program ?

The Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) implemented the pre-need burial eligibility determination program to assist anyone who would like to know if they are eligible for burial in a VA national cemetery. VA is promoting pre-need eligibility determinations to encourage Veterans and their eligible family members to plan in advance to use VA burial benefits that Veterans have earned through their military service.

For Advance Determination of Eligibility (Pre-Need):

The law requires VA to formally establish your benefit request. To do that, send military service documentation to the National Cemetery Scheduling and Eligibility Office (NCSO) so that an actual pre-need eligibility determination can be made. You can do so:
--By fax - 1-855-840-8299
--By email - scan and send your documentation to
--By postal mail - contact the National Cemetery Scheduling Office, P.O. Box 510543, St. Louis, MO  63151.
NCSO staff will review your information and provide a written response based upon that information.

Please go to  for details.
